At times you may be required to reset your StocksToTrade settings to factory defaults in order to resolve an issue.
There are three ways of resetting StocksToTrade to its initial settings.
Method 1 - Login Screen Reset Action
This is the quickest method to reset StocksToTrade Settings files.
This method involves starting the application login screen and clicking on the gear () icon at the bottom left. This will display a menu with the "Reset" Option.
You will then be prompted to confirm the reset action:
Clicking the "OK" button will proceed with making a backup of all existing StocksToTrade data files and deleting the existing settings.
Once the delete process has been completed, you may simply restart the application and log-in with your StocksToTrade Credentials.
Method 2 - Application Reset Action
You may also reset the StocksToTrade settings from within the application.
This method involves starting the application login screen and clicking on the gear () icon at the top right of the main window. This will display a menu with the "Reset" Option at the bottom of the list.
You will then be prompted to confirm the reset action:
Clicking the "OK" button will proceed with making a backup of all existing StocksToTrade data files and deleting the existing settings.
Once the delete process has been completed, you may simply restart the application and log-in with your StocksToTrade Credentials.
Method 3 - Manual moving or deleting files
The final method requires to access your StocksToTrade data directory and move or delete the files from this directory.
On Windows, this may be achieved by opening a File Explorer window and entering the following string in the address bar:
- %LOCALAPPDATA%\StocksToTrade
This string is a shortcut variable that allows quickly accessing the following user directory:
- C:\Users\My_User_Account\AppData\Local\StocksToTrade
On Mac OS X, this may be achieved by accessing the following directory:
- ~/Library/Preferences/StocksToTrade
The simplest way to do so in Finder is by pressing the following key combination:
- CMD + SHIFT + G
And then entering the string above to quickly access the location.
Once you have accessed the directory on your Operating System (Windows or Mac), you may then move all the files and directories contained in this location.
Please note that deleting the backup directory contained within the StocksToTrade data directory will remove any backups previously made through the "Reset" processes described in the previous sections.
Accessing the StocksToTrade setting Backups
In order to access the backup files generated during the "Reset" process described in Methods 1 &2, you will need to access the StocksToTrade data directory.
On Windows, this may be achieved by opening a File Explorer window and entering the following string in the address bar:
- %LOCALAPPDATA%\StocksToTrade\backup
This string is a shortcut variable that allows quickly accessing the following user directory:
- C:\Users\My_User_Account\AppData\Local\StocksToTrade\backup
On Mac OS X, this may be achieved by accessing the following directory:
- ~/Library/Preferences/StocksToTrade/backup
The simplest way to do so in Finder is by pressing the following key combination:
- CMD + SHIFT + G
And then entering the string above to quickly access the location.
Once you have accessed this directory, you will see additional time-stamped directories, matching the date on which each reset was last made.
You may access the relevant time-stamped directory and copy the relevant files contained within.
Here is the file description for each of the files that you should restore based on the data you wish to recover:
- Basic StocksTotrade settings: StocksToTrade.ini
- Personal watchlists: your_user_email_dot_com_watchlists.xml
- Personal alerts: your_user_email_dot_com_alerts.xml
- Personal Chart settings: your_user_email_dot_com_charts.xml
- Personal News Streamer settings: your_user_email_dot_com_newsscans.xml
- Layout settings: your_user_email_dot_com.xml
- Twitter Screener settings: your_user_email_dot_twitterscreeners.xml
- Personal avatar: your_user_email_dot_com.png
- Trading Module Security Questions: your_user_email_dot_TradingModuleLogin.data
- Stored Trading Accounts: your_user_email_dot_TradingAccounts.data
In order to complete the recovery process, you will need to copy the relevant files to the applicable directory:
- Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\StocksToTrade\ (C:\Users\My_User_Account\AppData\Local\StocksToTrade\)
- Mac: ~/Library/Preferences/StocksToTrade/
